One of my super cool ideas

It's time that I shared another one of my really cool ideas with the world again. Something I have always really like the idea of doing is having a podcast that is about something that maybe only 10 people in the whole world actually care about and putting out like 1000 episodes.

Just think about it. Imagine I hosted a dumb podcast that had like 5 loyal fans and nobody else cared because the topic was so niche!! I just think it would be super fun to get 'experts' in that are actually just really normal people with the same niche interest.

I have no idea what the actual topic of the podcast would be but some fun and super niche ideas I had were:

- A really small town basketball team in the middle of South Dakota (or somewhere else irrelevant like that, sorry to all 5 people that live in South Dakota that I have offended)

- Some weirdly deep gaming lore like the Elite Dangers political systems

- A weekly report on the GDP and trade of a micronation

Now that I write them all down I am a fan of the irrelevant basketball team idea the most. Like imagine being one of like 10 fans and all 9 of them tune in to either guest star or watch my podcast about it. It just sounds like it would be so much fun!

Anyway just like all the rest of my amazing ideas this one will likely never happen. As much as I think it would be cool I just don't think I could yap about something so niche for 1000 episodes but maybe one day. I'll have to get practicing by making small talk to a wall.

The internet is dying and I hate it

The title of this segment is very misleading so sorry for the clickbait. The internet is very much alive and well with more users than ever each day but when I say it is dying I am more just referring to the world of online video content. I've found it increasingly difficult to find a good YouTube video to watch on my second monitor or while I eat (the only time any sane person watches YouTube) and I hadn't realised how downhill content had gone until recently.

The other day I saw a clip from the 'Streamer University', which is insane to me that it's a thing! The clip in question was a lecture from 'Ludwig', somebody who I'm not too familiar with but has 7 million followers on YouTube as I write this. He was giving a lecture, as he'd been brought in as one of the experts, and he was basically talking all about money and how expensive it was to make content. I can't remember the exact numbers but he was saying he had invested 100k in content and got 500k back that month or something. He also complained about how much he had to pay his staff and how once he had to lay off 50 employees before Christmas. And this got me thinking... WHY DOES A YOUTUBER HAVE 50 EMPLOYEES?!

Sorry to sound like an old man here but back in my day you had a Youtuber and maybe an editor on the payroll. Videos were generally edited very little so I remember a lot of people had the same editors! Nowadays it feels like even the people that have a little bit of success have a full team behind them. And this is why I say that internet content is dying, everything feels so corporate.

Don't get me wrong, the content of today is of a much higher quality than back in the day but sometimes I don't want to watch the same video I've seen from 5 other guys about guessing a secret blacksmith filmed in a studio. Sometimes I just want to watch some guy in his bedroom have a chat about something but sadly I think that era is dead.

Everything I see is about spending money to make money. This creates a crazy barrier to entry where new creators either have to be professional editors to keep up with the big guys that are paying thousands or they have to spend money doing something which just feels impossible. I remember so many success stories from when I was growing up about people that had recorded themselves in their bedrooms and amassed huge fanbases without spending anything or having flashing edits on screen constantly and I just don't see how that's possible anymore. If I've noticed this, as a fan who has no interest in joining the industry and becoming a YouTuber, you can only imagine how helpless people that actually want to do this must feel and that just makes me sad.

So who's to blame here? Mr Beast for making high budget videos the new norm? Kids these days for not having a long enough attention span to sit through 10 seconds of unedited content? I'm not sure any one person or factor is to blame to be honest. I think it's more of a case that one person has been successful with one thing and everyone has rushed to copy them and now we are at a stage where every video feels sterile and the same.

I'm ready to wrap up my rant now but first I can't not comment on Streamers. I don't watch streams because personally I don't think enough happens in them. Every time I've tuned into a stream it's just someone sat there ignoring the fact that people are throwing money at them, not my kind of thing. But I'm sick of clicking on a YouTube video expecting good content and just getting stream highlights! Please don't bring your slop over to YouTube just because streaming doesn't pay well enough because you're investing too much in 'content' and editors!

Apologies, the longest time I've spent talking about anything on here and it's just a big rant about how I couldn't find a good YouTube video to watch lol. I promise I'll think of something fun to talk about in my next post don't worry.
